GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES (FY 03 GUIDELINES) AND PUBLIC MEETING
The Environmental Protection Agency has developed a draft for the fiscal year 2003 Brownfields Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Fund Grant Application Guidelines (FY 03 Guidelines). - BROWNFIELDS COMMUNITIES GET $675,000 IN SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING
FOR JOB TRAINING
EPA has selected 11 supplemental pilot grants totaling $675,000 under the Brownfields Job Training and Development Demonstration Pilots. These are the second round of supplemental Brownfields job training pilot grants to be awarded (the first round was in May). In communities impacted by Brownfields, project officials will use the supplemental funding to continue their efforts to train residents in procedures for the handling and removal of hazardous substances.- EPA Press Advisory

STORAGE TANK SITES AT GAS STATIONS IN 26 STATES

TO HELP 80 COMMUNITIES REVITALIZE ABANDONED PROPERTIES
EPA Administrator Christie Whitman recently announced $14.6 million in Brownfields grants to assess the contamination of abandoned properties in 80 communities around the nation. Since its inception, EPA's Brownfields Program has contributed over $280 million in pilots and grants to spur assessment, cleanup and redevelopment at brownfields sites.- EPA News Release

- EPA ADMINISTRATOR WHITMAN ANNOUNCES $21.5 MILLION TO REVITALIZE
BLIGHTED COMMUNITIES IN 17 STATES
EPA Administrator Christie Whitman today announced $21.5 million in Brownfields Grants to clean up and revitalize blighted communities in 17 states. In a ceremony in Oakland County, Michigan, Whitman said, "We are here today to announce the awarding of $21 million dollars in funds to help clean up Brownfields across America. This money will go to help communities turn neighborhood eyesores into community assets, much like what is going on here at this site."

with Habitat for Humanity International
EPA Administrator Christie Whitman today signed a memorandum-of-understanding with Habitat for Humanity International that will begin a partnership to build efficient housing on former brownfields properties. The agreement outlines each organization's pledge to work together to bring this shared goal to completion. Today's announcement marks another step in the EPA's longstanding efforts to promote economic vitality, while protecting our nation's environment and safeguarding public health.

- President's Request Fosters Environmental Partnerships
Administrator Christie Whitman today announced President Bush's proposed Fiscal Year 2003 budget request of $7.7 billion to support EPA's mission of protecting human health and the environment. The budget request includes more than a 100 percent increase in funding for Brownfields, significant increases for watershed protection and a $200 million overall increase over last year's request.

- President Signs Legislation to Clean Environment & Create Jobs
President Bush signed bipartisan legislation that will encourage the cleanup and redevelopment of old industrial properties cleaning up our environment, creating new jobs and protecting small businesses from frivolous lawsuits. The President also announced that his FY 03 budget will double the funds available through the EPA in FY 02 - from $98 million to $200 million - to help states and communities around the country clean up and revitalize brownfields sites.

- January 11, 2002 - Deadline for Submitting Letters of Interest
for the National Endowment for the Arts' New Public Works Program
In 2002, the program will award up to $1.25 million to support as many as 20 design competitions, with a focus on school projects. New Public Works will provide up to $75,000 each to as many as 10 school design projects, in addition to 10 general projects that will receive up to $50,000 each.
