Feature Story
Stone Fruit Pesticides Reduction Success in CaliforniaEPA's Region 9 Pesticide Program operates within the context of the overall regional office structure. Region 9's particular areas of emphasis include:
- Urban Initiative activities to stop the illegal use of unregistered pesticides and the misuse of agricultural pesticides in homes, schools, and businesses;
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Schools;
- The agricultural Worker Protection Program;
- The Agriculture Initiative, which sponsors partnerships to support the transition away from pesticides with reduced availability due to the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). EPA Region 9 is now accepting grant proposals for eligible Agriculture Initiative projects.
- U.S.-Mexico Border projects;
- Participating in community-based projects to better assess environmental exposure to pesticides in California's Salinas and San Joaquin Valleys, and the state's Central Coast area.
